A place where change begins
New Start is a not-for-profit organization with offices in Dartmouth and Halifax, Nova Scotia, dedicated to fostering healthy relationships. We offer individual and group counselling services for individuals who have used abuse or violence in their relationships, as well as support for their partners or former partners.
In addition to counselling, New Start operates a community office that provides social work services, workshops, and educational sessions and programs, with a focus on supporting fathers.
Our Services
Fatherhood Matters
Our Fatherhood Matters team provides preventative programming and services for fathers, father figures, and their families, to support parenting, positive family relationships, and child development. This includes one-on-one support sessions, parenting programs, and other community events.
Social Work Services
New Start offers social work services and programming related to family violence prevention and intervention. Our social worker provides needs assessments, resource navigation and advocacy, individual psychoeducation sessions, and delivers our Empowering Fathers program.
Intimate Partner Violence Counselling
New Start offers individual and group counselling for those who have used abuse or violence within their relationships, and counselling for partners/former partners of clients. We welcome self-referrals and referrals from other service providers, and we provide services to individuals involved with the Domestic Violence Court.
